United Way Launches Volunteer Recruitment for 2025 Free File Tax Prep Program

United Way of Pickens County is preparing for another impactful tax season, and we’re calling on community members to step up and make a difference.

Each year, a dedicated team of trained volunteers provides free tax preparation services to individuals and families across Pickens County—many of whom earn an average income of just $24,000. Last tax season alone, nearly 60 volunteers helped file more than 2,200 tax returns, putting critical refunds directly into the hands of those who need it most.

Need Help? Dial 211.

With SNAP food assistance set to pause on November 1, nearly 10,000 people in Pickens County will be affected — and 70% of those are children or older adults.

This pause puts many vulnerable people at risk of food insecurity.

Our community is strongest when we support one another. If you or someone you know is struggling, United Way’s 211 is here to help — anytime, day or night.

Free File volunteers are invited to drop in to meet your Site Coordinator, and pick up your volunteer t-shirt and name badge.
