Pickens County, SC — United Way of Pickens County is excited to welcome Michelle Lyons as the new Free File Program Manager, overseeing the organization’s free tax preparation services for local individuals and families.
EASLEY, SC-United Way of Pickens County is pleased to announce that Theresa Singletary has joined its team as the new VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) Coordinator.
Easley, SC – In 2023, 36% of workers in Pickens County’s 20 most common jobs lived in households that couldn’t afford basics, according to new data from United Way of Pickens County and its research partner United For ALICE. These workers – the backbone of every community – include food services, retail, manufacturing, health care and social assistance, and educational services.
United Way of Pickens County is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry for Education grants to support programs designed to improve 3rd grade reading in Pickens County.
LOI's should address how proposed programs will positively impact 3rd grade reading in Pickens County, should demonstrate measurable results, and should specify the population served. Programs that involve parental engagement and make efforts to reach out to underrepresented and/or marginalized populations are encouraged.

Community members are invited to attend an upcoming information session to learn more about tax season volunteer opportunities through Free File.
Free File is an IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program which serves individuals and families in Pickens County with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. This program relies on community volunteers who receive IRS training and certification to serve as tax preparers, intake coordinators, interpreters and more.
